Timmaron Group’s CEO, Barb Stinnett, has attended this invitation-only event for close to twenty years. She and her leadership team have been heavily involved in healthcare throughout the years, both with Fortune 500s, key partners, and innovative startups. The JPMorgan event, held every January (except during the pandemic years), has been one of the longest-standing gatherings in all of U.S. industry, dating back to 1993 – and has significant global impact as well.

But this epic, deal-making conference, always held in San Francisco, is little known outside the industry, and somewhat shrouded in secrecy, due to its “insider” reputation and restrictive admission policy. Investors and industry leaders who are JPMorgan clients stand a decent chance at being invited. But, as only about 8,000 get invitations, it’s fair to conclude that many clients don’t make the cut, as the bank undoubtedly has many more clients than that number. Adding to the exclusivity is that invitations are non-transferrable.

What is known about this year’s event? Well, as one of those insiders, Timmaron Group is happy to share some facts and figures. First of all, many more than the 8,000 who attend the actual conference converge on San Francisco for “JPM Week.” The city’s leaders estimate the event attracts close to 20,000 people, many of whom are there to attend dozens of ancillary events and receptions around town (even though they can’t get into the main event). The economic benefit? Tens of millions of dollars flow into San Francisco, city officials say. Bars and restaurants are very happy!

Here are some other key stats about the conference this year:

  • The event runs for three full days this week, Monday through Wednesday, plus a half-day on Thursday. It’s a packed agenda! To wit:
  • Approximately 220 public companies give 40-minute presentations in several breakout rooms — about 60 per day the first three says, and about 40 on the final day (Thursday).
  • About 125 private companies give 25-minute presentations in an additional set of breakout rooms — about 36 per day for the first three days, and 18 on the final day.
  • In addition, about 30 “APAC” (Asia-Pacific) companies give 25-minute presentations on the final day.
  • A total of 16 not-for-profit healthcare organizations were also invited to present – including such names as Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins.

Three main keynote addresses were on this year’s program:
1) Jamie Dimon (of course), JPM’s Chairman and CEO.
2) Mark Milley, General (Ret.), former Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (2019-2023).
3) Scott Gottlieb, MD, former FDA Commissioner (2017-2019).
