Timmaron Group had the unique opportunity to be subcontracted in 2019 as an OEM for a project dreamed up by Elon Musk, the founder of Space X. His Starlink subsidiary was formed to launch a satellite constellation service that would provide affordable Internet access worldwide, especially for areas that could not get access otherwise.

“With our background in low earth orbit (LEO) technology, we were in a unique position to develop what Elon was seeking,” said Barb Stinnett, Timmaron CEO. “We ultimately were responsible for all the components and negotiated with several tech vendors regarding the antenna and other components,” she said. All told, Timmaron worked with more than a dozen manufacturers, organizing and running the entire supply chain and manufacturing of the satellites. “We couldn’t have done it without the great collaboration with our engineering contact at Starlink, the Head of LEO (low earth orbit),” Barb added.

What began as the historic first launch of 60 Starlink satellites in May of 2019 has grown remarkably. As of September 2024, the constellation of satellites consists of more than 7,000 mass-produced small satellites in low earth orbit, which communicate with designated ground transceivers. Nearly 12,000 satellites are now planned to be deployed, with a possible later extension to 34,400. SpaceX has announced reaching more than 3 million Starlink subscribers as of May 2024. Amazingly, Starlink now accounts for more than two-thirds of all of Earth’s satellites!

And, on August 25, 2024, T-Mobile announced “Above and Beyond Coverage” — its vision to provide truly universal coverage, pairing SpaceX’s breakthrough satellite constellation with T-Mobile’s wireless network, connecting the vast majority of smartphones already on T-Mobile’s network to Starlink satellites.
